PARLIAMENTARY GENERAL ELECTIONS 2006

pap3.gifPAP’s second handover of power to a third Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong could see an uphill task for the long-dominating ruling party to maintain continued hegemony if GE1991 results were anything to go by, where his predecessor, now Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong, first assumed leadership and PAP lost four seats. Adding to the challenge were opposition parties being in a better shape than before and carried out preparations earlier. A rejuvenated WPwp3.gif, under the leadership of Secretary-general and sole WP MP Low Thia Khiang and WP’s first woman chairman Sylvia Lim, released its manifesto ahead of PAP and introduced several well-qualified candidates. SDA alliessda.gif continued a united front amid SPP MP Chiam See Tong and NSP NCMP Steve Chia facing the tide of a narrowing margin and the brunt of public mishaps respectively. SDP sdp.giffaced a barrage of problems over a defamation lawsuit against SDP by PAP which threatened unity of the once-strong political party. SDP leader Dr Chee Soon Juan was barred from polls over a fine in 2002 for speaking without a permit and made bankrupt in 2006. In the end, the political status quo was kept but PAP saw a reduced margin. PM Lee’s assignment to SM Goh to gain back non-PAP constituencies did not bear fruit as opposition MPs reversed their fortunes. This GE saw many firsts – first time contests in six-member GRCs, overseas voting, a PAP Prime Minister scoring below PAP’s national average, PAP not returned to power on Nomination Day since GE1988, purely straight fight since GE1968, no candidate lost their election deposit, were seen. It was also the second GE in history with no independents. Some of the above could be attributed to new election rules requiring the presence of assentors in nomination centres and posed difficulty for candidates without manpower resources, who traditionally entered into three-cornered fights. Lim became the third WP and first woman NCMP while Chia announced retirement from politics after his third unsuccessful bids.

I aM what I aM today for the Decision I made yesterday.

247793955l.jpgIts all start with my stupid decision in the early part of 2003 when I chose a Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Design course @ ITE Tampines. I was happy at first when I was accepted to this course instead of going to Mechanical Engineering where I should be heading after completing two years of NITEC Mechanical Technology.

After a few months I started to slacked. No mood to study. Failed all the Modules subjects like Autocad Designs, Dynamics, Engineering Mathematics etc.

I just remembered that I absent for a few days and atlast I told my form teacher that I wish to quit and the shocking part is, they allowed me to quit without my parents approval.

From there I had worked part time everywhere and sometimes I even unemployed for few MONTHS.

I declared something important during my Medical Checkup at CMPB during 2004. After waiting for so long to serve NS suddenly I checked my NS status online but it shows ” You are not eligible for National Service” I had called CMPB for an official letter. They given me but it is useless as most employers will be asking for Certificate of Service or atleast Exemption Certificate.

So in the year 2004 June I worked as a Part time Retail Assistants for i guessed nearly a year. My take home pay is less then $600.

Then June 2005 I joined Shell Hong Joo Auto Centre as Customer Service Attendants lasted me for around 6 to 7 months. After a few days of 2006 Chinese New Year I left Shell Hong Joo Auto Centre. My take home pay at that time was only $800 per month.

After I left Shell Hong Joo Auto Centre, I was left unemployed for a few months untill April or May. I only remembered I worked with this private company also as Customer Service Attendants that last around 1 or 2 months at Upper East Coast Road.

I had to leave the job because I had asked Miss Irene Ng, Member of Parliament for Tampines GRC (before the election) to assist me (before i get a job) to get a placement in National Service and she did assist me. I guessed she was shocked to see me during the Nomination day as ASSENTOR to the opponents but we are being paid to do so. As a person that is unemployed i guessed $50 its worth being an Assentor for a less than 3 hours.

June 6th 2006 I was called up for National Service and I was hooked up with alot of troubles untill I was exempted from National Service on the 15 February 2006.

From 15 February 2006 I was job hopping. Every job was uncomfortable and seems not suitable to me. Even had a few arguements with CDC career consultants Ms Suryana on her job recommendation.

Atlast I checked WDA websites at their JObslite column. I try my luck SMS this particular lady Ms Sharen Lim on how I can be a Security Officer if I am not qualified. She replied to me that the company will send me for the free course for atleast 5 days. If I passed the course I must signed a bond with them for 6 months. 6th June 2007 I passed the WSQ Enhance Basic Security course and on the same day i start working till now.

Alot of troubles and some problems at work but in life I cannot run away from problems and troubles.

I aM what I aM  today for the Decision I made yesterday.

Malaysian Health Minister Sex SCANDAL

M’sian Health Minister admits he is man in sex DVD
Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek admitted he is the politician in the sex DVD circulating in Johor & said the girl is his “personal friend”. -The Star >>

CHUA: Not quitting posts.

The MCA chief has declined to comment on a sex video scandal which surfaced in Johor two days ago that allegedly involves a national leader from the state.

Two DVDs enclosed in brown envelopes were distributed to selected homes and shops in Muar and Batu Pahat. They are said to contain footage of a senior Johor MCA politician having sex.

MCA vice-president and Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek today admitted that he was the person caught on video having sex with a woman, copies of which were widely distributed in Johor and elsewhere.

Chua apologised to Malaysians, his supporters and his colleagues for the indiscretion and said he had apologised to both Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Badawi, his deputy Datuk Seri Najib Razak and MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting.

However, said he would not quit his government and party positions.

Reading a prepared statement at a press conference at the Labis MCA office here, the minister described the woman as a personal friend. He refused to elaborate.

The most important thing to me is that my wife, children and family have accepted my apology and forgive me,” Chua said at a packed news conference filled with journalists and his supporters.

He appealed to the media to give space to his family in these trying moments.

Chua stressed that he had not made the recording of himself but while it was not important in the context of his situation who had made the recordings, the motives of those responsible was quite clear, he said.

He did not elaborate but his comments seemed to suggest that it was his political enemies who had been behind the secret filming of his sexual act.

Chua repeatedly apologised to Malaysians and his supporters and said he was grateful for their calls and SMS to him.

Asked by journalists on what he intended to do about the manner the tape was obtained, Chua said he left it to the police to investigate.
Pressed on his position in the Cabinet, Chua said: “I serve at the pleasure of the Prime Minister.”

Chua’s case is not the first involving politicians, from both sides of the spectrum, in the country in controversies of sexual nature.

The existence of the DVD featuring Chua was first reported in the Chinese dailies on Sunday, after its emergence earlier in the day.

In the past, there have been controversies involving former Malacca Chief Minister Tan Sri Rahim Thamby Chik, former Selangor Mentri Besars Tan Sri Muhammad Taib Muhammad and Datuk Abu Hassan Omar, opposition Keadilan defacto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and a former DAP assemblyman in Penang whose wife committed suicide from the Penang bridge after learning of his affair with another woman.

All these politicians saw their political careers suffer because of the controversies and none have managed a comeback to their former stature although some tried and are still trying.

Chua, a former Johore executive councillor, rose to national political prominence after he was appointed as Minister of Health in 2004 and became MCA vice-president.

He was widely seen as a serious candidate for the MCA deputy presidency, now held by Transport Minister Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy, and eventually as MCA president.

However, his indiscretion may have cost him his political career, as evidenced by previous incidents involving politicians.
